Made in China

Stockley Academy recently received an International School Award accreditation (Intermediate level) from the British Council to recognise and reward the integration of global issues and awareness into their curriculum.

As part of this linking initiative, Principal, Mr Storey, along with Head of Art, Ms Masani and Governor, Dr Eric Blaire were invited in December to visit their partner school, Ganquan Middle School, Shanghai.

While they were visiting Shanghai, Mr Storey made exciting plans for ten Stockley Academy students to visit China in June 2010 and for students from China to visit Stockley Academy students in July 2010. Mr Storey said, “This is a fantastic opportunity to explore another culture, gain educational experiences and share ideas in Science and Technology. Shanghai is an amazing city and is developing rapidly - the engineering used in the construction of the skyscrapers in the financial district will be of tremendous interest to Stockley Academy students.”

The first collaborative project for both schools was for the Rivers of the World Thames Festival. The final stunning artwork produced by Stockley Academy students was published in a book and exhibited at the Oxo Tower Gallery in late 2009. The banners are now on display in Stockley Academy’s reception. This was the first of many inspirational projects that are planned, including the celebration of Chinese New Year, Dragon Boat racing, Pen pals and using video conferencing between the two schools.
