University-style lecture theatre

Our lecture-style main hall is a versatile resource, which is used widely throughout the year for different events. Each day begins in the hall with a thought-provoking, inspirational House assembly, hosted by a wide range of guest speakers, and drama lessons are taught in the hall in order to increase the ability of students to perform to an audience.

A great working environment

We believe attractive surroundings encourage a sense of pride and ownership. The Academy is set in landscaped grounds with external courtyards, a kitchen garden, an amphitheatre, a pond and plenty of space for outdoor learning and ecological projects. A dedicated Sixth Form centre also has its own common room and exclusive ICT areas.

ICT plays a central role in learning, creating an inspiring environment for students that really motivates them to succeed. The Academy is technology-rich, with resources available throughout the building over both a wired and wireless network. Interactive smart-boards allow students to engage in tasks involving multimedia, bringing “fun” learning into the classroom.

Learning Resource Centre

Our Learning Resource Centre (LRC) is open throughout the school day and also after school from 8.00am – 4.30pm. It is a calm and quiet retreat for students to come and learn, with a warm, friendly and welcoming atmosphere, providing a range of opportunities for continual learning and self-improvement.

The LRC houses a broad range of resources that are accessible and meet the needs and learning styles of every student from Year 7 to the Sixth Form. This allows our students to learn and research information using extensive multimedia resources for all areas of the curriculum, while a rich and varied fiction selection encourages reading for pleasure.

We also have a wide range of non-fiction books, newspapers, journals, magazines and study guides. Our listening area houses an audio centre with audio books and music CDs, our writer’s corner has an interactive whiteboard and a computer suite and we have a visual centre that contains educational DVDs to support the curriculum. Our hands-on experience resources consist of treasure boxes containing Ancient Greek, Ancient Egyptian, World War II and Victorian artefacts.

Our LRC is set over two floors; downstairs is the main library and upstairs is the Sixth Form learning area, which also houses resources and a computer suite. We have a high-quality careers section that provides information about careers and choices, helping to guide our students as they make important decisions for their future.
